Buckley 3 Year Imps Deal

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 06/04/2001

FORMER Grimsby Town manager Alan Buckley has committed his future to Third Division Lincoln City by signing a three-year contract. The former Grimsby Town boss initially signed up with The Imps for the remainder of the season, but is now under contract at Sincil Bank until 2004.

"I'm delighted to announce that agreement has been reached with Alan Buckley on a three year contract," said Lincoln chief executive Jerry Lonsdale in a statement to the club's official site.

"This ends any uncertainty for Alan, the players and supporters regarding the future and will allow serious planning to begin for next season.

"We wish Alan the very best in his career at Lincoln City and hope he can emulate his achievements elsewhere in football here at Sincil Bank."

Alan Buckley was sacked as Grimsby manager after just two games of the current season had passed. Buckley guided the Mariners through 4 promotion seasons, 2 successful Wembley finals, and took Grimsby from the lower reaches of the old fourth division to become a respectable first division side.

In 12 years at Blundell Park, sandwiched by an unsuccessful stint as West Brom manager, the former Walsall stiker, never experienced relegation with Grimsby.
