AN OFFICIAL announcement from the Board of Directors of Grimsby Town Football Club today has confirmed that the new stadium project will commence immediately planning permission is confirmed.

The statement on Mariners Net says: Following a meeting last week, the Board of Grimsby Town Football Club has reconfirmed its commitment to moving into its new stadium at the earliest possible date.

As soon as planning consent is granted, the Board and its developmental partner will put in place all the elements that are necessary to complete the project. The Board is currently awaiting the decision of the Government on whether or not to call in the application and hold a public inquiry.

The application currently before the Government is for a 20,100-seat stadium, which could be built in phases, with a first phase of at least 12,000. No further decision can be made on the phasing until planning permission is secured and all the funding is in place.
