Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Clare Transfer Listed

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 15/09/2002

FORMER Town forward Daryl Clare has been transfer-listed by Boston United and has been told by Pilgrims' caretaker manager Neil Thompson that he will never play again for the York street club. The fall out emerged last night after the Oxford game when Clare refused to sit on the bench as a sub.

A statement from Boston United issued via the club's official web site, reads: "After today's match with Oxford United, Neil Thompson (Boston United caretaker boss) stated that before the match Daryl Clare had refused to be a substitute for the match.

"Subsequently Daryl has been placed on the transfer list and Neil doesn't want him to play for Boston United again."

This course of action was later ratified by being reported on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. The course of events had started on the morning of the Oxford game when Clare had taken a fitness test on an injured foot and was passed fit by the medical team.

Then Neil Thompson decided to choose Defender Paul Ellender as a centre forward electing to put Clare on the bench. So now the Jersey-born forward has played his last game for the Pilgrims, having helped the club rise into the Football League last season as their top scorer after having been released by Grimsby Town, where he started his career as a trainee.
