Press Release - GTST

By: Dave Otter
Date: 15/10/2002

A Public Meeting will be held at 7.45pm (doors open 7.30pm) on Monday 18th November 2002 at the Memorial Hall, Cleethorpes, to launch the establishment of a Supporters Trust for Grimsby Town Football Club.

This initiative is the work of a small group of long standing supporters, with help and guidance from the Government-backed Supporters Direct organisation, based at the University of London.

The principal aims of the Trust will be:

  • To open up channels of communication between GTFC and it's supporters.

  • To invest in the future of GTFC to safeguard the future of the club. This may be through direct investment in the youth set up, or encouragement of younger supporters.

  • To ensure that supporter needs are taken into consideration when decisions are made at GTFC

  • To promote GTFC in the wider community.

  • To promote community involvement in ownership of GTFC.

Once established, the Trust will take the form of an Industrial and Provident Society, regulated by the Registrar of Friendly Societies. As such it will operate in a totally democratic and transparent manner, and will be open to participation by anyone interested in the long-term success of the club.

Presentations on the evening of 18th November will be made by representatives of Supporters Direct, one of whom will the Supporters Direct Chairman Brian Lomax. In addition, the Chairman of an existing major football club Supporters Trust based in the south of England will be addressing the meeting. Other speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.

As many supporters of Grimsby Town FC as possible are urged to attend, and fully participate in what could be a landmark evening for club and supporters alike.
