Harry's Chin Wag - Week 5

By: Harry Ellis
Date: 10/11/2002

WHAT a pity about Kabba going back to the Palace, but after the form he’s shown, it wasn't a surprise that Palace called him back after scoring 6 goals in 12 games for the Mariners, and his reluctance to sign for the rest of the season all worked in Palace’s favour.

So let’s hope Groves can get a decent replacement, and can pull us away for the bottom of Division One. Now I've got some more information that'll stun Town fans. We've apparently offered Jevons to Hull for nothing if they want him, so we can get his high wages off our neverending wage bill. Young Johnny Rowan is also being touted around clubs as a loan player, so we all know that Town are deep in trouble and need to cut the £3 million wage bill they are facing before the end of this season.

Another talking point this week is the freak goalfest against Burnley last Tuesday night: 6-5. what a pair of defences we watched at Blundell Park! I counted 4 goals being scored straight from the kick off so it was worth watching from the terraces, and hopefully if it happens again we'll be there watching.

Anyway has anybody seen the internationals that Town have been playing in their team this season? There’s Danny Coyne, John Oster, and Darren Barnard, all capped for Wales. Georges Santos, he was a Cape Verde international and the two young lads Town brought in on loan: Jason Gavin, a Republic of Ireland U21 international and close to being called up for their full squad. Also Shaun Allaway has kept goal for the England U20 last season, and here’s me wondering why punters wont come through the turnstiles at Blundell Park to see any of these stars playing in the black and white shirts week in and week out.

So please start supporting your local side and forget about our Premier League "neighbours", because Town need your money more that they do. So let's forward to the next home games and hopefully The Mariners will start moving up the Division One table
