Striker Drought At BP!

PAUL Groves has admitted that his quest for a striker for Saturday's game has met with no success. His target man Kevin Kyle is ruled out as he on the verge of a first-team call up at Sunderland.

"There's nothing happening at the moment and we won't have anybody for the weekend," Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph today. "There is not a lot out there and players are just not available. Kyle is close to doing it up at Sunderland and we enquired about him, but he's on the verge of the first team and not allowed out." "I'm keeping in touch with Crystal Palace about Kabbs, but there is nothing doing there at the moment." "We've got to be careful because of our loan situation and we've only got three short-term loans left for the rest of the season. We'd hoped to already have Kabbs signed up so losing him was a double blow in that respect." Groves also rubbished reports that Terry Cooke was moving to Rochdale. "It's absolute rubbish. He's just fighting for his place here and we have a bit of competition now. He's got to work hard, get his head down and take his opportunity when it comes. We want competition for places and the team is playing well at the moment - and that's just how it goes." On Coyne, he said; "We're hopeful that he'll be OK for Saturday. It depends on how he reacts today, but he's had some rest and we're hoping that will cure the problem." "It's after the games that it's bothering him the most and he's been carrying it for two or three weeks now."
