Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Sheff Wed Report Card

By: Dr Fishy
Date: 20/04/2003

DR Fishy would like to ask a few questions. Why did we play 4-5-1 in such a crucial match? Why were there three Owl mascots? And why did one of them decide to copy Mighty Mariner's pre-match routine?

Home > 2002-2003 Season > Report Cards > Sheff Wed (a)

Other than that I have no other questions to ask. It was plain and simple. Town weren't good enough against a team that they should have beaten.

Coyne: Most of his drop-kicks swayed out very wide. Made a straight-forward save in the first half. Otherwise he wasn't troubled all that much.

Grade: C

McDermott: The captain led by example. He was tested for pace but blocked everything that came his way and isolated the danger.

Grade: B-

Gallimore: Oh dear, what is happening to Gally? Out-paced on at least two occasions and his awareness is deserting him.

Grade: D-

Chettle: Steady at the back, had everything under control.

Grade: C+

Santos: See Chettle.

Grade: C+

Campbell: Burst forward on a couple of occasions. Didn't really threaten, only from set pieces. Became invisible for a while.

Grade: C

Keane: Tried very hard. Likes to cut inside and chase things down. Think Coldicott but with perhaps a shade more skill.

Grade: C+

Hughes: Made many fine interceptions in midfield and looked to drive forward at every opportunity.

Grade: C+

Bolder: Still looks like a nervous youngster but to his credit he continued to probe away and was unlucky with a long-range effort that was well saved by Pressman.

Grade: C

Groves: Gave away possession too easily at times. At times he looked steady, but then five minutes later he lost the ball again.

Grade: C-

Boulding: The effort was there, but the support was nowhere to be seen. So much for the formation taking a 4-3-3 shape when in attack.

Grade: C

SUBS

Mansaram: Came on and made a nuisance of himself without really getting anywhere. Turned and produced a trademark wayward shot from the edge of the box.

Grade: C-

Grade Guide

A*This is almost impossible to achieve as I will refuse to give anyone this grade - unless they score six goals and get opposing players sent off.
AThis is more possible to achieve, although the player must have had a brilliant game i.e. he can't have put a foot wrong all match.
A-The player must have performed superbly, setting up goals, scoring goals, making match-winning tackles etc.
B+The player played to a very high standard indeed having been influential throughout the 90 minutes.
BThis can be achieved if the player had a very good game overall but could be forgiven for making one or two minor mistakes.
B-The player put in a performance worthy of special mention for his efforts on the pitch or otherwise having a good game.
C+A mark for players who have had an average game but at the same time played well in patches and may have had an impact on the final score.
CAn average performance but not worthy of being dropped for the next game - a competent performance.
C-Start thinking about the player's attitude and commitment on the pitch. Showed little effort and was probably invisible for most of the match.
D+Poor game and realistically shouldn't feature in the next game.
DThis player shouldn't be playing in the near future.
D-The player deserves to be fined for his abysmal performance
EThe player should be sacked
F And then shot
