Coyne Making a 'Crisp' Move for No1 Jersey!

By: Steff Keighley
Date: 16/07/2003

DANNY Coyne has arrived at the Walkers Stadium not simply to warm the Subs Bench, but to push Ian Walker for the No1 Jersey at the Foxes. Coyne is expected to be cover for Walker initially, accepting his status as understudy for the moment.

But Coyne commented; "It's a big challenge for me, but a fantastic one. He (Walker) is a great goalkeeper, he had a fantastic season last time around and truly warranted his England recall."

"Of course I'm looking forward to working with him but at the same time I must concentrate on my own game, get my head down and take any chance the manager gives me."

Coyne arrived on a free transfer from The Mariners last week with a certain reputation from certain reviews, which refer to his outstanding performance, nearly 2 years ago, from Gerard Houllier after The Mariners dramatic extra-time win over them.

Micky Adams has already had a chat with the Welsh shot-stopper, telling him what he expects and what is required from him, Coyne then adds that he is looking forward to working with his new team mates and, hopefully securing a place in the Welsh National side for the European Championships in Portugal next year.

However Coyne faces some stiff opposition in the likes of Paul Jones, Darren Ward and Mark Crossley, but has not done himself any disfavours by joining the Foxes.

Coyne also added "I want to be involved in Euro 2004. It is a great time for Welsh Football at the moment, so if we carry on our great run then it would be fantastic for the Welsh public."
