When yet another defensive crisis hit Blundell Park, Jason Gavin was drafted in on loan from Middlesborough. Despite lots of hype before his debut, Gavin wasn't really that much better than what we had. Arguably at fault for Gillingham’s equaliser on his debut and then gave away a penalty for blatant handball in his second game at Stoke.
More shaky performances followed which led to his eventual omission from the team, later returned as an emergency fullback against Derby and turned in a fair performances before returning to Teeside after two months.
Later the same season Gavin was loaned to Huddersfield who were also relegated.....good season all round for him then.
