Striker Bid Rebuffed!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 01/09/2003

PAUL Groves indicated today that Laurens Ten Heuvel is likely to leave Blundell Park, and a bid to bring in a striker last week was turned down.

"We're looking to bring in a striker. We inquired about one on Thursday & Friday and it was turned down and they wouldn't let the lad go. We'll be looking, we've got one more slot in the budget and that's it."

Groves is looking to bring someone in on loan with a view to a permanent deal says Mariners Net today who also confirmed that Cardiff's Peter Thorne was not the player concerned last week.

On Saturday's defeat Groves said; "I've got no complaints today, the better side won on the day. If we'd come away with a point I think we'd have been very, very lucky. It was just disappointing to concede so late. We never really created any chances and when you do that at places like Bristol City you're going to struggle."

"Give the lads credit today they have given their all. They got blocks in, they got headers in, Aidie made saves, we defended quite well until the last minute"

"I think that we've made three or four changes today and it showed. We never really had a spell apart from a little spell in the first half when we kept the ball. We never really created too much, perhaps one or two half chances but that's not enough. If you come to places like this and you're stretched, you are going to find it very difficult."
