Going The Right Way?

By: Bill Osborne

LIKE most other fans, I get caught up in the hype or despondency of the coming season's build up. This season, I find it difficult to weigh up the new manager because I knew little of him before he came and even less now he is here.

I admit he has given me a couple of worries chasing ex Scarborough and Conference no-names with me thinking we were looking like being happy to finish a couple of places above the Conference.

But this last week or so he has brought a few interesting players in on trial who seem to be better (in theory) choices than Conference players. His two recent trialists, a French striker Amadou Konte and Polish born forward Tomasz Moskal plus all the others on trial have been a very interesting collection and, all being well, some of these will join the squad.

Konte (23), who started his career at Chateauroux, struggled with injuries last season while at Paterno Calcio. Moskal is described as 'an experienced front man who has played for several clubs in his homeland.' Last season he scored three goals in 19 league appearances for Górnik Polkowice in the Polish premiership.

But whether they are good enough for us is unclear at this time but Russell Slade seems to have the right attitude saying; "We've got the permanent deals, and there are quite a few here on trial and that's a good thing for me. With so many players out of contract at the moment, it is a great chance to take a look at them."

There is also another signing expected and one can be assured that there will be more players coming in for trials too.

Overall, I feel much more comfortable than I did a couple of weeks ago and I get the feeling that Slade will be a no nonsense manager by his recent comments about commitment and 'wearing the shirt'.

Has Slade's recent signings and trialists changed your mind or were you always confident about him? Is he going the right way? Let us know via the message board.
