Toner Signs For Town

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 14/07/2005

FORMER Lincoln City midfielder Ciaran Toner who has been on trial with the Mariners and went on the army training adventure has now signed on a one year contract.

Formerly with Tottenham and Leyton Orient. Came to Blundell Park to try to impress Russell Slade. It seems that he has done so with the deal he has accepted.

Russell Slade said: "Ciaran has done well with us and I'm pleased he has agreed to sign. He has a decent pedigree and will be a good addition to our midfield, I'm sure.

"He has signed for a year but we have the option to keep him on for longer if things go well."

  • Town reserves won their first pre-season friendly of the summer last night, boosted by a number of trialists.

French trialist Antoine scored the winning goal for Town in the second half. Grimsby should have taken the lead in the first period, but Alex Hay missed a penalty.

Town: Rob Murray, Karl Colley, Yamoo, Hogg, Flynn, Antoine, Wilkinson, Wayne Graves, Alex Hay, Lee Thompson, Doherty

Subs: Miles Chamberlain, Paul Ashton, Alan Lamb, Nick Heggarty, Andrew Ward
