Barnet Player Ratings

By: Jake Olley
Date: 11/03/2006

THREE goals just before half time were enough for the Mariners to comfortably see off struggling Barnet at Blundell Park, complete a double over the Londoners and consolidate their top three position.

GKMildenhallShrugged off claims about his future with a solid performance. Dealt with everything that came at him and was only beaten by a superb free kick from Norville that hit the bar.7
LBNeweyDid well on the wing and did better with his defending. He also seems to be linking up well with Toner on the wing. But I still think he's a winger not a full back.7
RBMcDermottLooked decent on the wing and offered Town another dimension going forward. Did well and nearly got on the scoresheet. One of the oldest full backs in the League but also one of the best.8
CBFutcherLooked solid throughout and used his height to his advantage a lot. Made one mistake when he completely missed the ball from a cross which Whittle dealt with well.7
CBWhittleReturned and looked a different class. Didn't give the Barnet attack a sniff. Also added experience and organisation to the backline which has been missing in his absence.9
LWTonerLooked good at left wing and offers more strength and a better cross in Parkinson's absence. Fully feel the boy offers Town three vital things: utility, height and match winning passes. 8
CMWoodhouseAlways looking for the wings is why I believe Woodhouse could be a superb signing and a vital player for Town's promotion quest. Didn't have the best game but still gives his all and chases every ball.7.5
CMBollandA great goal capped a Patrick Viera like performance as my 'Player of the year' battled and battled some more to keep it tight and protect the back four. Often delivers painstaking runs to get into the box which caused Barnet problems throughout. His goal was well taken and cooly slotted past the helpless keeper to make it three.8
RMCohenVery much the same as Toner he's a pacy winner who gets stuck in and battles for the ball. Wasn't fantastic but did the job and caused problems. Put himself about as well up front.7
FCG JonesNever gets any credit but has still scored ten goals and made his two today from hard work and good finishing. The first was a superb one on one opportunity where he buried past Read in goal and the second was rub of the green as he got the luck and put it where it belongs, in the net. His link up play and flick-ons make him a very good player for Town and I feel has been a big part in Reddy's recent success.
FCReddyCame off early and didn't look like Michael Reddy at first but caused a few problems. Did okay and would've scored if he'd stayed on.6
SubMendesDid Okay but gave the ball away to easily. Not good enough6
SubKalalaNowhere good enough to start and looks like he'll be gone in the summer.7

Ref Watch7Did okay.
Crowd RatingPontoon 8, Others 6Apart from the Pontoon, nobody else sang or chanted which meant Bill Hammond's mission impossible well and truly failed.

Assessment: Barnet were astute and looked good at the back but were killed by 5 minutes of brilliance as Town got what they needed and deserved. We had several chances and deserved more but 3-0 at home you can't really complain!
