Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Beat the Bookies: Week 9

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/09/2006

WHO would have thought Town would win against Chester last week? Beat the Bookies did, saying it was "the first time this season we've been given a realistic price of getting three points". How right we were, but how close it was!

This weekend the Mariners play Stockport, a team who did the double over Town last season. Just three of those six points meant Grimsby missed out on automatic promotion and Stockport stayed up. The bookies are now making Town odds on favourites to win again. bet365.com offer 8/11 for a home win, and Stockport are 10/3 to do a repeat of their smash and grab raid at Blundell Park last season. Town's performance against Walsall was much improved, but they are still vulnerable defensively and of the two prices an away win offers the best value.

Elsewhere in League Two the big match of the day sees early pace-setters Wycombe take on Lincoln at home. Wycombe have won their last six games, but most of them have been against lowly opposition. Consequently the 11/4 on offer with bet365.com for a Lincoln win, looks great value, as the Imps have also had a great start to the season and the match could be a lot closer than the bookies are forecasting.

In the Premiership Liverpool face two massive league games in the space of three days. Firstly Newcastle at home on Wednesday, followed by Tottenham also at Anfield less than three days later in a lunchtime kick off. The proximity of the two games makes the 7/2 on offer for a Spurs win in the second match with bet365.com well worth considering.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Lincoln to beat Wycombe (11/4 with bet365.com).
  • 2. Tottenham to beat Liverpool (7/2 with bet365.com).
