Town Appoint Alan Buckley!

By: GTFC
Date: 09/11/2006

GRIMSBY Town Football Club have acted decisively to appoint a new team manager. Numerous applications for the Manager's role have been received but of them all, Alan Buckley stood head and shoulders above the rest.

Alan has reiterated his desire to return the Mariners to their former glories describing it as "unfinished business". Throughout his two interviews with the board, he exuded all the hunger and confidence that made the board's decision to reappoint Town's most successful manager unequivocal.

As you would expect, Alan has maintained his involvement and awareness of teams and players at all levels of the game and is itching to get back on the training ground to work with the team.

Alan is one of the few managers to have been in charge of a football club for over a 1000 games. His record in that time puts him behind only Sir Alex Ferguson and Joe Royle. These career stats only add to the club's belief that they have got the right man.

Living locally and with all of the credentials to change the club's fortunes, the board believes this appointment will be welcomed by Grimsby Town fans across the world.

Everyone knows of his ability to create and build a team capable of winning. Without a doubt his two previous spells with Grimsby Town have been the most successful in the club's history.

Alan will take the helm for Saturdays FA Cup trip to League 1 club, Northampton Town.

Caretaker manager Stuart Watkiss will remain at the club as Alan's assistant.

Next: Buckley's Coming Home Rob Sedgwick reflects on the sensational return of Alan Buckley for a third spell as Grimsby Town manager.
