Reddy Ready to Stay

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 23/12/2006

MICHAEL Reddy may be staying at Blundell Park after the Irishman has had second thoughts about his decision to put in a transfer request. Reddy is now once more negotiating with the Grimsby board for a new contract just four months after asking to leave Blundell Park.

After last night's game Town boss Alan Buckley revealed Reddy had had a change of heart coincident with Buckley's arrival on the scene.

"Michael has shown a desire to stay and talks have recommenced with him," said the Town boss. "He had his initial offer before I came. That was done by the board to try and protect the club.

"I came along and thought that if he wants to go, and he made it clear in August that he did, then he would have to go.

"Now for some reason, he had intimated that he wants to sign a new contract and I am doubly delighted with that".

"We want to keep our best players, not to lose them," added Buckley.

Reddy asked for a transfer request in August shortly before the season started, but a hip operation has sidelined the former crowd favourite until recently, when he has come in as a substitute in the last two games.

The arrival of Alan Buckley has lifted everyone at the club after a difficult period under Graham Rodger, and Reddy's decision to re-consider his move is indicative that a new optimism about the future extends to the playing squad as well as the fans.

Buckley also revealed last night that midfielder Danny Boshell had been given an extended contract offer that would take him to the end of the season. Boshell's current deal is believed to run out at the end of 2006.

With Martin Paterson's loan spell to end shortly, Town are in need of someone of Reddy's calibre to come in and take the Stoke striker's place in the first team.
