Town Slay Stags

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/02/2007

GRIMSBY came from behind for the second week running to see off the challenge of Mansfield and record their third consecutive victory. Substitute Danny North came on to score the winner with his first touch of the game in front of a large away contingent at Field Mill.

Alan Buckley continued with the 4-5-1 formation which has started the last two games, but Town struggled to get going in the first half, and fell behind when Michael Boulding slipped the ball past Phil Barnes.

Town though gave themselves a lifeline with a late goal in the first half. Newey shrugged off a challenge and crossed a ball to Bolland at the far post. Bolland's volley from a narrow angle struck the ground and looped over the 'keeper into the Mansfield net.

Grimsby came out in the second half once again fired up by Alan Buckley's half time team talk and threw everything at Mansfield. Town went close on a number of occasions, and just when it looked like the Mariners might have to settle for a draw, Alan Buckley brought on local lad Danny North for Martin Paterson. North's first meaningful touch of the game was to latch on to a through ball from Toner, ghost past the defender, and drill the ball low past the 'keeper into the corner of the net.

A full report will appear later.
