Scouts Eye Town Youngsters

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/01/2008

OTHER clubs have been eyeing some of Grimsby's talented youngsters according to Grimsby Chairman John Fenty. "We know there are clubs looking at our players, you just have to look at the scout list at our games", the Town supremo told the Grimsby Telegraph.

One club Dundee went as far as enquiring about one player, left-sided midfielder Nick Hegarty, but Town rebuffed the overture. "There was some brief contact about Nick but it isn't something that was discussed at any length", said Fenty. "The offer wasn't in the interest of either the club or the player.

"The form of young players like Nick, Danny North and Ryan Bennett is bound to attract attention. But there has been no notable contact or enquiries about them. It is a compliment that clubs are looking at our players, though, it shows the form of the team isn't going unnoticed."

Town have abandoned any attempt to sign more permanent signings in the final day of the transfer window, instead hoping that they persuade Sam Hird, Rob Atkinson and their clubs to extend their loans until the end of the season.

"Alan did look at a couple of players that could come in but nothing has come of that", explain the Grimsby Chairman. "We are constantly looking at the squad, though, and are already looking to the summer window."

  • Alan Buckley was today pipped to the Manager of the Month award for January by Rochdale's Keith Hill. Dale have lost a game in 2008, something Town haven't, but they picked up one more league point in January because Grimsby had two draws.
