It Won't Be Watkiss: Official

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/09/2008

THE Grimsby Town board have said they will act quickly to appoint a new manager and that it won't be anyone from within the existing staff, notably current caretaker manager Stuart Watkiss - according to a statement issued by the club.

Various names have been linked with the Mariners including Hull City's Dean Windass and former Luton boss Mike Newell.

The club's statement says : "The Directors have drawn up a shortlist of applicants to be interviewed at the earliest opportunity.

"Besides those who have applied, the Board are speaking to some additional candidates that they also feel could have the right qualities to manage Grimsby Town FC into the future.

"In the interests of the club, and in order to unite the club, players and fans, the Board confirms, that this managerial post will be an external appointment.

"The caretaker manager, Stuart Watkiss, and the Board are fully behind the decision and look forward to having a new manager in post within the near future."

Grim Rob Says It is good that the club are taking their time to get the right manager, even if it meant losing Saturday's game to Barnet. Last time we rushed into appointing Buckley and have ended up no better off than when he came. Let's hope we finally have something to cheer about at Rotherham next week.
