Injury Time Blues

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 22/10/2008

ONCE again Grimsby were struck by their recent injury time Tuesday-night hoodoo, this time against Mike Newell's former club Luton. The game bizarrely followed the pattern of the previous week's game against Wycombe, with a first minute tap-in for Peter Bore.

The only difference from the previous week was the additional goal scored by each team.

Grimsby took the lead though Peter Bore in the first minute of the game with just 40 seconds on the clock.

A terrific strike by Peter Bore on 23 almost made it two on 20 minutes, but the 'keeper made a great save.

Phil Barnes conceded a penalty on 24 when he brought down Craddock, who stepped up to score. Barnes received a booking.

The penalty had come against the run of play but buoyed Luton, who had the better of the second half.

On 57 Town won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, which Till took and Bennett flicked into the Pontoon net.

Town had a good chance to make it three but the 'keeper tipped it over for a corner.

With 10 mins to go Nick Hegarty cleared a ball off the line as Luton pressed for an equaliser.

Grimsby conceded a sickening 3rd minute of injury time goal when Craddock was allowed to run through the defence and shoot past Barnes from the edge of the area.

A full report will appear later.
