GRIMSBY finally put to bed their Blundell Park jinx, ironically against high-flying Shrewsbury one of the form teams of League Two in a deserved win at Blundell Park. On loan striker Adam Proudlock scored the winner, meaning he is the seventh player to reach two goals so far this season.

As expected French striker Akpa Akpro was given his debut by Mike Newell.

In the opening few minutes Rob Atkinson had three attempts in the six yard box which were all blocked and Trotter had a piledriver saved by Gilks.

After dominating the first 40 minutes but not scoring Phil Barnes had to be alert to save a shot from Grant Holt from 8 yards.

Shrewsbury had the better of the closing stages of the first half which ended 0-0.

Early in the second half Proudlock latched on to a Akpro shot which was going wide and rifled it past Gilks to give Grimsby the lead.

Midway through the second half a long range shot by Stockdale needed a good save from Gilks to tip over for a corner.

Town clung on to record a deserved win, their first at Blundell Park for six months!

With Bournemouth, Luton and Barnet all drawing for once Town gained ground on the teams around them.

A full report will appear later.
