Henderson Staying Until Season End

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/03/2009

PRESTON goalkeeper Wayne Henderson has agreed to extend his loan with the Mariners until the end of the season. Henderson has been with Grimsby since late February and has made seven appearances in total for Town.

It means Grimsby are now covered for 'keepers until the summer following the departure of Barnes and Montgomery yesterday. Leeds shot stopper Jonathan Lund is also at loan with the club to the end of the season.

Henderson seems to have gradually improved in his time with Town. His command of his penalty area is now good and he's made several vital saves which have kept Town in games. Only his kicking has occasional let him down.

Town boss Mike Newell was delighted to get Henderson for the final seven games, telling Mariners Net: "Wayne has done really well for us and we're delighted that he wants to stay with us until the end of the season."

Preston chairman Derek Shaw told the Preston OS: "Wayne will get the football he wants from this deal while we can also work happily in the knowledge he'll be available to us at short notice if he's required for senior action back at Deepdale at any point before the end of the season."
