Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Sol Campbell
Sol Campbell

Our Sol

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 23/09/2009

IT'S hard to know who looks the bigger fool this week, the Notts County chairman or their erstwhile star signing Sol Campbell. Hats off to Morecambe though - whatever they did to Sol put him off the entire division for good.

At least Campbell did the honourable thing and walked away, unlike a certain Martin Butler. I suspect not many players would have turned their backs on a lucrative contract so quickly. He could have at least strung it out for a few months before slapping in a transfer request. I wouldn't be surprised if Sven's had a few second thoughts after experiencing the joys of Underhill and Christie Park, I don't think many people expect him to see out his contract - he rarely seems to!

Notts County have to be good for the division, it creates interest in League Two in the wider football world, and every club they play will be desperate to beat them. Other than matches I have bet on, County's game is probably the first result I look out for after our game has finished. Grimsby are lucky enough to have a Christmas game against the Magpies. Of all our fixtures only the two matches against Lincoln will have a comparable interest level.

It goes without saying that I hope their promotion bid fails and that their "five year plan" ends in tatters. It took Hull a decade to get out of this division and County could well find a few significant obstacles in their course.
