Woods Chances Ended by Bath

TOWN caretaker boss Neil Woods's chances of becoming Grimsby manager on a permanent basis look to be all but dashed after the Mariners sunk to another low with a 2-0 cup exit to Bath City. Town were deservedly beaten by the non-leaguers, who outplayed them for large spells of the game.

Bath scored from a free kick on 31 minutes. Poor defending by the Mariners allowed Holland the time and space to head the ball past Colgan.

Danny North replaced the Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro after half time, but it still took Grimsby until 74 minutes to get a shot on target.

Before then though Bath had doubled their lead. Edwards latched on to a loose ball in the box, which deflected off Boshell past the hapless Colgan.

Grimsby now face Leeds United on Tuesday in the JPT and desperately need to find a new manager before their next league game at Northampton on Saturday. Former boss Russell Slade is a leading contender for the post after formally applying this week.
