Who will win League 2?

Town Rescue Point

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/10/2010 (Last updated: 17/01/2012)

GRIMSBY secured a point in the televised game at struggling Forest Green, twice come from two goals down to secure a point in a 3-3 draw. Defensive mistakes cost Town dearly in a game they initially looked on top in, but the Mariners fought back and could have gone on to win it in a late rally.

Rovers's striker Reece Styche gave the home side the lead completely against the run of play on 12 minutes after a goalkeeping mistake, and then a defensive mix up presented a chance to James Norwood who finished well to put Rovers 2-0 up. It was a body blow to Town who had enjoyed the majority of the possession, with Carlton having three early chances to score for Grimsby.

Town very quickly pulled a goal back through Andrew Wright to give Town hope, but soon after the break it was 3-1 after another defensive mix-up. However two goals by Rob Eagle saw Town grab a point.

A late chance for Steven Watt could have won the game, but his headed effort flashed just wide of the goal.

Whether Neil Woods should have changed a winning side, bringing in defender Steven Watt for Scott Garner we will never know.

A full report will appear later.
