Hats Off to Town

By: Rob Sedgwick

GRIMSBY rescued a point with a late goal at Luton to keep their promotion aspirations alive for the season. Trailing by a Andre Gray goal on the hour and with Luton looking the more likely of the two sides to score, Grimsby's prospects of a return to the Football League looked over.

However with one goal in it there was always hope and so it was to prove when substitute Kieran Hughes-Mason's levelled the scored in the 86th minute.

The result leaves Town four points behind Luton in the final play-off position, although Luton have played a game less, and York (one point behind Luton) two games less.

Town started with a 4-5-1 formation with Rob Duffy playing in the solitary striking role. Luton dominated the first half, which ended goalless, but it was no surprise when the Hatters took the lead on the hour mark. McKeown punched the ball clear from a corner but it was played back in and eventually hooked in by Andre Gray in the six yard box.

Luton had further chances to extend their lead, but Grimsby salvaged an unlikely point when Town broke and Elding flicked the ball into the path of Hughes Mason who shrugged off a defender and poked the ball past Tyler into the bottom corner of the net.

So Town live to fight another day. The chances of promotion are still slim, but Grimsby have seven games left - they probably need to win at least six of them to finish in the top five.
