Gateshead v Grimsby Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 04/12/2012

GRIMSBY'S match with Gateshead is subject to an afternoon pitch inspection, but assuming it goes ahead winger Scott Neilson could return from a groin injury which has kept him out for the last few games.

Town are blessed with wingers at the moment as Joe Colbeck has returned from injury and came on as a substitute at the weekend, and Saturday's Man of the Match Marcus Marshall is also pushing to retain his starting place.

However the managers have vowed to not stick with a winning team and use their full squad over a busy period, so changes can be expected both in formation and personnel. Town have used both 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 this season, depending on the opposition, and may decide to go with three forwards to match Gateshead's system.

Gateshead lost to Newport at the weekend but have beaten Luton and Macclesfield already this season, so will be a difficult challenge for Town. The Tynesiders, who currently lie just below the play-offs, are the first side which Grimsby will have played twice this season in the league. Grimsby won the match with Gateshead 3-0 at Blundell Park, a result which wasn't quite as comfortable as it sounds. Grimsby scored two set piece goals in the first half but had to defend for long spells, before adding a third goal on the break in the second half.
