FA Trophy Semis Take Shape

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/02/2013

FINALLY after a seemingly interminable wait the semi finalists of the FA Trophy are known. Grimsby will face Dartford over two legs and promotion rivals Wrexham will take on the other GTFC in Lincolnshire - Gainsborough.

Dartford came from behind in both the original fixture and the replay against Halifax to win 3-2, while Conference North side Gainsborough won on Tuesday night against Barrow.

The two legs will take place on Sat 16th Feb and Sat 23rd Feb. The winner of each semi will meet in the final at Wembley, with the total prize for each club likely to be a six figure sum.

Grimsby and Wrexham will be overwhelming favourites to reach the national stadium. However for Dartford and Gainsborough the chance to play in the final will probably be the main focus of their season now, while the other two clubs are both intent on the chase for the one automatic promotion place.

Romantics would probably prefer an all GTFC final, whereas those more financially motivated would prefer to take on Wrexham with their much larger fan base. A Grimsby v Wrexham final could potentially have a crowd of over 50,000 fans.

The first match against Dartford will take place at Blundell Park, where Grimsby have already lost to Dartford this season in the league - the Darts ran out relatively comfortable winners back in October, although since then the Kent side's league form has dipped a bit.

The a week later the two teams will head south to play out the final chapter in Kent.
