Arnaud Mendy2009/101 (0)0 goals

As per usual when it's announced a foreign player has signed for Grimsby Town, sections of the fanbase romance about the possibility of an exotic talent from a different country who will come in and work wonders. I am affraid Arnaud Mendy, despite sounding like he could be a French international lacked the "va va voom" needed to make it even at the lower reaches of League Two, let alone playing alongside the likes of Monsieur Ribery.

The central midfielder arrived on a one month loan from Derby County in October 2009 and made his debut in a shocking 2-0 home defeat against Rochdale, which would go on to be memorable for two reasons, some random French guy putting in an utterly inept performance, and the sacking of Mike Newell the following morning. Neil Woods took over as caretaker boss and instantly sent Mendy back to Derby after leaving him out of the squad for the next game.

Since his diabolical week at Blundell Park, Mendy has since actually become the international footballer his name made him out to be, albeit cashing in on his family routes by declaring himself available for African nation Guinea-Bisseau. He has since turned out for Tranmere Rovers and Macclesfield Town and as of May 2013 he is currently contracted with Blue Square Premier rivals Luton Town.
