Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Wings Clip Town

GRIMSBY once again failed to put in a convincing performance and ended up paying the ultimate price to a late Welling goal. Town had looked the better side in the early part of the game, but Welling gradually came into the match and their pressure told when Lafayette stroked the ball home following a breakaway attack.

The Mariners once again played their new look 4-3-3 formation but struggled to create a meaningful chance in the entire match. MacDonald's chance which grazed the top of the bar was the nearest the Mariners came to finding the net.

As the game progressed Welling realised that the team facing them wasn't that great and gradually increased their own ambition and tempo. The home side dominated the closing stages and looked the more likely to score before Lafayette's chance.

Grimsby now have won, drawn and lost a game with their new look side and formation. Other of the pre-season favourites have dropped points, but Town have played three of the poorest teams in the division and would have hoped to have had at least twice the number of points they have now.

The pressure increases on Rob Scott and Paul Hurst's side to do the business at home against another of the less fancied sides, Alfreton, who have thrashed in the corresponding matches in the last two seasons.
