Macca wins Player of the Year

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/04/2014

KEEPER James McKeown won the Supporters Player of the Year award for 2013-2014, and also picked up another five trophies. Centre back Shaun Pearson also won six awards, as the pair dominated the Awards night. It was fitting that the two players should be recognised who have probably done most to keep the goals conceded count down.

Whether the two will be involved for Town's final game of the regular season is the million dollar question. Paul Hurst has to decide whether to play a strong team in a match Town don't need to win as they have already qualified for the play-offs. On the other hand Grimsby would like to play the second semi-final at home in front of their own supporters, and beating Braintree would ensure that would happen regardless of the other results.

Pearson, on 14 yellow cards for the season, is one booking off a suspension, so is the most likely player to be rested for the match with Braintree.

Elsewhere in the Cambridge have no 'keeper who is fit for their final game with promotion-chasing Gateshead, and the Conference have refused permission to bring in an emergency loan. Discussions are ongoing as to what United will be allowed to do if they have no goalkeeper.
