GRIMSBY fans were given an early Christmas present with a Friday night win over Forest Green at Blundell Park in an entertaining game. Lenell John-Lewis scored the opener in the first half, then turned provider after the break to set up Craig Disley for the winner.

After a quiet start with Grimsby coming closest to scoring, Town took the lead midway through the first half. John-Lewis latched on to a terrific cross by Magnay and steered it into the net.

McKeown made a good save to deny Norwood after Forest Green when hit Town on the break. Then Stokes snatched at a shot and blasted wide from a prime position right in front of goal.

Forest Green came into the game more after the break and soon equalised when Stokes blasted a ball in that Town's defence had failed to clear.

Town went back in front midway through the second half when John-Lewis picked out Disley who flicked it into the net in another stunning goal for the Mariners.

McKeown kept down in front when he denied a powerful shot by Norwood.

Town hung on and survived a few scares for an important win. It was an entertaining game with two great team goals.

Town's next match away at Macclesfield is another vital game in the race for the promotion places.
