Town Face Braintree in Play-Offs

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/04/2016

GRIMSBY will play Braintree in the play-off semis despite losing at Tranmere today in the final league game of the season. Braintree's win over Altrincham leapfrogs them into third place, but Dover's loss to Forest Green means the two full-time teams are separated in the competition.

Paul Hurst decided not to play his first team against Tranmere and made eight chances to the side for the game in Birkenhead in which Tranmere did have a chance of qualifying for the play-offs if they could beat Town. The game's only goal came in the first half when a defensive mistake allowed Steven Jennings to slot in from six yards.

Grimsby will play Braintree at Blundell Park on Thursday, and the return match in Essex on Sunday. Dover play Forest Green at Crabble on Wednesday night and the return leg in Gloucestershire on Saturday.
