Town's Shopping List

By: Will N

SINCE our move to League Two, it has been identified we need to "double up", so in this article I have identified 6 potential free transfers. They are prioritised to suit a 4-3-3 system which has given us most success recently. Disclaimer: I am not disowning any players, as all of our current squad deserves to be retained.

Central Midfield: Ryan Flynn

Recently released by Sheffield United, Flynn scored 13 goals in 153 league games; an impressive tally and at 27 years of age he may be a suitable replacement for the ageing Disley.

Left Back: Nicky Shorey

The ex-England man was recently released, and although not as dynamic as he once was, he is still a useful player.

Centre Back: Andrew Boyce

Remember the name? The competent defender has been released by fellow Lincolnshire club Scunthorpe. With Grimsby playing from the back, another centre back to add competition and capable back-up would be welcomed ? is he the man?

Midfield: Duane Holmes

A young centre mid recently released is very quick and technically gifted, ticks every box for Town, who have been missing a set-piece taker for a while now.

Striker: Dayle Southwall

Ex-Mariner, now at Boston. He has recently been in the news suggesting a move to full-time football: is a move back to Grimsby Town on the horizon?

Striker: Robbie McDaid

The Ireland U-21 player had a loan spell at Lincoln, but failed to impress; didn?t we have one of those already? Young and quick, he seems to be another player to work on for Hurst.

Above I have identified a few players who may be worth a shout. Please see my profile (MARINERSMAN22) if you like my articles.
