Who will win League 2?

Town Go Down to Orient

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/08/2016

GRIMSBY slumped to their third successive league defeat as defensive mistakes cost them dear in a match they should have won and ended up losing. The result sees the Mariners now close to the bottom of the embryonic league table.

James McKeown and Shaun Pearson were guilty of mistakes which cost Grimsby two goals, with former Mariner Ollie Palmer scoring the second for the Londoners. McKeown failed to hold on to a low cross in the second half and Liam Kelly reaped the benefits following in before McKeown could grab the rebound. Then Pearson miscontrolled the ball allowing Palmer a clean run on goal.

Substitute Dominic Vose scored a consolation for Town, but the players on the pitch before he came on should have added to the goals for tally in the earlier part of the game.

Shaun Pearson came in for the out of form Andrew Boyce and skipper Craig Disley replaced Tom Bolarinwa in midfield.

In the first and second halves Grimsby had lots of possession but didn't create loads of clearcut chances. The mistakes in the second half took the sting out of Grimsby and there was little sign of a fight back until Vose's defelected consolation in injury time.
