Grimsby v Stevenage Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 29/03/2018

GRIMSBY are running out of chances to rescue their season following a cataclysmic 18-match run without a win. The Mariners enter the home straight in desperate need of a victory, knowing that three points in the remaining home games is required if they are to avoid a return to the National League.

The Mariners start with Stevenage on Good Friday still with several players injured. Full back Ben Davies (calf) is ruled out, and injured trio Luke Summerfield, Karleigh Osborne and Mitch Rose are all rated doubtful after only just resuming to training. Scott Vernon and Jamille Matt face late fitness tests, in what could restrict Michael Jolley's options.

Stevenage had three midfielders Ben King, Ben Sheef and Dale Gorman on international duty this week, all of which are expected to return. However defender Joe Martin and midfielder Jack King are both unlikely to recover from their injuries in time for the clash with the Mariners.

Stevenage in theory have nothing to play for but the players doubtless will be looking to impress new Tunisian manager Dino Maamria, and have the luxury of being able to play with very little pressure on them, in sharp contrast to Town.

The reverse fixture at Stevenage saw a terrible performance, and Town lost 3-1. The match was infamously dubbed "bragate" after some female Grimsby fans were heavily searched by over-zealous stewards.
