Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

The End!
The End!

Season Abandoned

Date: 15/05/2020

THE League Two clubs have voted unanimously to end the season, and three clubs will be promoted to League Two. The league plan to still have the fourth club promoted via the play-off, if this is allowed by the government, EFL and FA.

The clubs have agreed to leave the league table as it stands, so the three clubs Crewe, Swindon and Plymouth will be promoted. They also want to avoid promoting the bottom side, currently Stevenage, but one club would be allowed into the league to make up the shortfall caused by Bury's expulsion from League One at the start of the 2019-2020 season. That's likely to be Barrow, who were top of the National League when it was abandoned.

Exeter, Cheltenham, Colchester and Northampton would compete for the remaining promotion spot. Although it is complicated by the fact that League One and the Championship have still to decide what to do.

But for now, League Two have reached an agreed position and the clubs will have to wait for the divisions around them and the football authorities to make their own organisational minds up and agree to the League Two proposals.

Grimsby finish 13th, the same position they finished in the last season to be abandoned (1939) albeit three divisions lower in the hierarchy.
