Town Strike Cup Gold

THE Mariners will face Man Utd at Blundell Park in the 2nd round of the EFL Cup. The last time Grimsby faced the Red Devils was in a league game in 1948. King George VI was the monarch, and ration books were still a part of everyday life.

The result was 1-1, and Grimsby ended up getting relegated from Division One, the last time they played in the top flight. They have never met in any cup competition since.

The game takes place on Tuesday 26th, or the following night, depending on TV schedules. It will almost certainly be sold out.

The Mariners are currently England's top goal scorers with 9 goals in their opening 3 games, including last night's Caraboa cup win at home to Shrewsbury
