Ivano's Charitable Boost

News From 1st July 2000

Ivano

Grimsby Town FC (in association with Ramsdens and Nisa-Today) announced today that part of the gate receipts for the pre-season friendly with Dundee will be donated to two local charities, St Andrew's Children's Hospice Appeal and the Fishermen's Memorial Fund.

The donation has been backed by new Dundee manager Ivano Bonetti who remembers the generosity of ordinary Grimbarians 5 years ago. During that time the people of the town raised £50K to pay the Italian's transfer fee (which the club were not allowed to pay to an unregistered agent).

50p will go into the charity's fund for every adult spectator and 25p for every child spectator. The club, Ramsdens and Nisa-Today are all contributing to the fund. The total amount raised could exceed £10K, depending on how many people attend the game, which is expected to get a very high turn-out from both sets of supporters.

Dundee set off today for a pre-season training camp high in Ivano's native Italian alps, and the Grimsby game will be the first opportunity for Dundee fans to greet their new manager on British soil, so a healthy Scottish contingent of at very least 500 are expected at the game.

Bonetti gave his 100% backing to the idea:

"I understand that these two charities are very dear to the town at the moment and I am very happy to come back to Grimsby to help them.
"I am so looking forward to coming back to play in front of the crowd, but these children are more important than that.
"I can never forget what the people of Grimsby did for me and how much they wanted me to stay."
