LL: Sky's the Limit

Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence has spoken of his ambitions for the club during the remainder of the season. Speaking after watching his side beat WBA 2-0 yesterday he believes that the Mariners can now set their sights on achieving a top-half finish as opposed to settling for mere survival this year.

"The way I see it, there's the top two who are going to win, a few who are top six material, and there's a group of eight or nine at the bottom," said Lawrence whose side jumped five places to 14th courtesy of the three points. "After those teams there's a gap and a group fighting for the top half. I want to be trying to attach myself to that top half group." "That's got to be the top target, position wise, it's as simple as that. "We're well happy. It's such a big jump for us. We've gone up five places and that's very important with the away games coming up." Lawrence is realistic about the challenge that faces the Mariners over the coming weeks - their immediate schedule incorporates visits to Watford, Wimbledon, Fulham and Wolves. However, the Town manager is maintaining a positive outlook: "At least we go into [those games] with a bit of confidence. We've also got two games in hand on a lot of people. They're away games, but at least we've got them." He then went on to assess Town's fourth win from their last five matches and was particularly pleased with Sunday's performance against Albion: "I think that's the best win of the four. They're a difficult side to play against and let's be fair we were fortunate to come in at half time 0-0. "We were certainly value for it in the second half, and maybe that makes us value for it overall. "David's was a great volley and maybe it's a good job [the covering defender] didn't get in the way of it. "But the other goal was classic Bradley. It did sit up nicely for him, but he still had to get it up and down over a six foot four inches keeper. I've seen plenty of them clear the bar." The Mariners travel to Vicarage Road on Saturday as they face division leaders Watford. Town will provide the first opposition for the Hornets after their mid-week clash with Manchester United in the Worthington Cup.
