Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Watford Preview

By: Jostein Jensen
Date: 15/04/2001

Watford should at least take a point from this fixture although they will be setting out to get all three. But the London team only managed a 2-2 draw at home against Crystal Palace last Saturday. Meanwhile Grimsby is in good form with only two losses in the last seven matches.

3-1 over Tranmere last Saturday was a very impressive display by Lennie Lawrence's disciples. Watford won the opposite meeting this season 4-0 and is favourite at the bookmakers.

Grimsby

It's hard to believe that the Town boss will start without the successful pairing of Cornwall and Livingstone that scored three goals in 45 minutes last Saturday. Instead Lennie will go for Jeffrey and Livingstone. "It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that Jeffrey will start on Saturday," said Lawrence midweek. He sees Cornwall as a great asset from the bench instead. "I've got to decide on whether to start with him (Cornwall) or keep him up my sleeve. He needed to come out of it for a bit," continued the Town boss who doesn't think Livvo can play for full 90 minutes.

Wayne Burnett is still out injured with a troublesome knee. "It's a bit of a problem really and I'm nowhere near training yet, so maybe we'll have to get the doctor's advice. It's still very painful right now," said Burnett on Wednesday.

Also Bradley Allen is struggling at the moment with his ankle and Pouton and Coldicott are receiving treatment for knocks from the Tranmere game though both are expected to play at Saturday. "I have had a bit of a sore Achilles tendon but hopefully it will have cleared up by the weekend, and hopefully I'll be involved on Saturday," said Coldicott.

Watford

Watford have only got four points from the last four matches - Burnley (H) 0-1, WBA (A) 0-3, Nottingham F. (H) 3-0, Crystal P. (H) 2-2. Watford's boss Graham Taylor is a former Grimsby player and a former boss for England. Despite taking his team into reach of the play offs he will retire as Hornets manager next season. John Barnes has been rumoured as their next boss.

Players to watch are their goalie Espen Baardsen a player with experience from the Norwegian international team and Tottenham. Also the talented Gifton Noel-Williams a man that can do the unexpected. Supersub for the Vicarage Road club is Heidar Helguson - a striker from Iceland with his past in the Norwegian league for Lillestrøm a great striker for the future! The midfielder Richard Johnson is out with an injured knee and so too is the full back Nigel Gibbs.
