Lennie Says Moore Not a Signing Deal - Yet!!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 29/05/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE has denied that he is set to offer out-of-contract Middlesbrough winger Alan Moore a contract at Blundell Park saying that Moore could join the Mariners for pre-season training but talk of a contract was premature.

"He played for us in the Reserves against Lincoln in April but we weren't prepared to commit to anything," said Lawrence.

"If he hasn't firmed anything up we'll probably have him down for a month or two in July, but I heard he was going to Hearts. John Hendrie is his agent and he's ex-Middlesbrough too so that's where the link comes from."

"With Stuart (Campbell) moving over to the right I'm going to need a left-sider and that's the priority." Said Lennie to the Grimsby Telegraph.

Lawrence is still keen to sign Fulham striker Luke Cornwall who scored four goals in 10 games for the Mariners but he still waiting for the Cottagers to name their price, which is expected to be around £50,000 to £75,000 plus a sell-on clause.

"Up the front it will depend on who's doing what and I'm still waiting for them to come back to me with a price," said Lawrence. He's one I want and he'd be a good investment."

"The average age is coming down. We greatly value the experience of the Grovesies and the Maccas' but there will be some young bods about the place."
