Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Lawrence Credits Teamwork for Award

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 04/09/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE played down any personal involvement in his first managerial award as Grimsby boss saying: "It's a testament to the efforts of the staff and the players. We obviously haven't got the resources of other clubs in this division and that makes it more satisfying and more rewarding".

The Grimsby manager told the Evening Telegraph: "Obviously we've had some fortune but the players are absolutely flying at the moment. The only worry is that there's not enough of them."

The managerial award is notorious for triggering an immediate surge of poor results, a fate Lawrence is well aware could be around the corner in the precarious world of football. His side are due to face Coventry City this weekend away from home, which marks the start of a busy month-long spell of fixtures which will provide a serious test of both the Mariner's resources and their stamina.

"...We can fall flat on our faces..."

"We've got to keep it up and if we take our eye off the ball we can fall flat on our faces. That's what football's like, you can be flying one minute, then hit the deck. There's a lot of games coming up in September but we're going into them with a lot of confidence." said Lawrence.

Walsall have downgraded their match with the Mariners to a lowly "category C" rating, a status which the Midlands club have reserved to rank Town along with Rotherham as the two least attractive opposing teams in the league fixture list.

The good news for Grimsby fans is that away ticket prices for the match on 15th December are expected to be just £10 for adults and £7 for children, with prices reduced all round the ground for the game.  Full Fixture List.
