Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Double Trouble!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/12/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE experienced a double blow on Friday with the news that striker Steve Livingstone would be out for the rest of the season compounded by midfielder Alan Pouton suffering a broken bone in his foot during the evening's fixture with Wolves, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

As the sponsor's man of the match was travelling on his way to hospital in an ambulance minus his award (which was collected on his behalf by Lennie Lawrence), the distraught Grimsby manager told the Evening Telegraph: "That's something we can do without if it is broken. That would be a massive blow.

"If it's a break or a fracture it's a big blow because he sparks other people off when he's out there. The injury saga in this place is just staggering."

Long-term injury victim Steve Livingstone has finally had his calf injury diagnosed after his specialists spent a month researching into the nature of his rare disorder. Following his operation, he is not expected to be back until at least March.

"Once he's had the operation he'll be in hospital for a week, and then he'll have a fortnight of complete rest," physio Paul Mitchell told the Telegraph. "After that he'll do strengthening exercises and he's going to be out for six to eight weeks, but that's only if everything goes well.

"The consultants have never come across it and have only read about it. He'll probably have it named after him it's that rare!"
