Who will win League 2?

Groves Eyes Tykes Battle

By: Richard Lord
Date: 01/01/2002

NEW Grimsby Town manager Paul Groves yesterday spoke to Mariners Net about the upcoming Barnsley game and emphasised how important the match will be.

"We've done some work this morning to try and prepare the players". said Groves. The new Town boss continued: "We'll have to wait and see with regards to a couple of lads fitness - Alan Neilson and Wayne Burnett - and we'll take it from there. Kevin Donovan has a number of friends here, but there'll be no friends on the pitch tomorrow! Obviously we're well aware of what Kevin is capable of doing but it's up to us to stop him.

"Barnsley have a good squad of players - good in terms of those who have played senior football and quality-wise as well. They've a good management team in Tony Ford and Steve Parkin who have turned them round very quickly."

Groves is keen to display his managerial qualities to the fans and he did that successfully by completing his homework on Pompey, realising that their keeper was vulnerable on crosses. Speaking of the Tykes he continued, "Mike Sheron is a very good player, as is Bruce Dyer. We know it's going to be difficult, but hopefully we can take something from that game on Saturday.

"After the York game there'll be a little bit of time to think things through but at the moment we're only thinking as far ahead as tomorrow. The big thing is to concentrate on what we're doing, emulate what we did on Saturday, and the effort that we gave then." Groves concluded.
