Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Coyne And Boulding Look To Saturday

By: Richard Lord
Date: 06/03/2002

LAST night's goal scorer Mick Boulding believes that the confidence will come flooding back in time for Grimsby's vital Division One relegation clash with Walsall at Blundell Park this Saturday. Despite Boulding giving Town the lead, Gillingham went on to record a 2-1 win.

Speaking to the Evening Telegraph Boulding said: "We have got to forget this game straight away, get our confidence back up and concentrate on Saturday now.

"I'm pleased to be scoring, but it is little consolation when you don't win, and winning is everything. We want to stay in this league and I think we are good enough to - we have just got to prove it now."

Of the goal, the Sheffield-born striker continued: "We do talk about the early kick, especially if I am one against one. It came straight over the top and the keeper didn't know whether to come or not. He stayed on his line and I just got in front of the defender and guided it in."

Danny Coyne was another player on the night that turned in an excellent performance. The keeper now feels that the remaining home games will determine which division the Mariners will be playing in next season.

Coyne said: "We have done well in the last few games and now we have got to concentrate on winning our home games.

"Saturday is a massive game and with Walsall having a good result their confidence will be up. It is a real six-pointer so we're all looking forward to the game and everyone is going to give it everything and hopefully we can get the three points."

Of the game the Welshman said: "We are disappointed to have given a 1-0 lead away, and to have conceded the goals in the way that we did and eventually lose was not a nice feeling."

Coyne had a hand in the goal which put Town in front, and he continued: "I just managed to see Bradley (Allen) and Mick two on two and I just thought I'd set it off. Mick is very quick and he'll give anyone a run for their money and he did and put us 1-0 up."
