Coyne Case Still Open!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 17/07/2002

THE Grimsby Telegraph continue to report that Danny Coyne will be allowed to leave on a free transfer saying today "As revealed by the Grimsby Telegraph on Monday, Coyne will leave Blundell Park for nothing, but he linked up with the rest of the Mariners squad this morning."

Danny did have a meeting with Lennie Lawrence but could not agree terms. It appears however that the discussions are only on hold as Coyne flew out today with the squad on their pre-season tour of Scandinavia.

Paul Groves that Cardiff are the only club to have shown any official interest in Coyne, while there has been no takers so far on Jevons.

"There has only been the Cardiff scenario with Danny that everybody is aware of. Apart from that there has been nothing. The club is looking to get money for both players in an ideal world but the transfer market will dictate what happens."

On the tour Groves said: "We've got Tresor with us and we've known about him for a while. But he's only 20 and another youngster. We've got the likes of Iain Ward, Stephen Downes, Chris Thompson who people will know about, Bradley Hughes, Chris Bolder and Tresor Luntala.

"This gives them the opportunity to get some time under their belts and experience the level that they're going to have to play at to get in the side. Jonny Rowan came on the tour last year and had a little taste of it and it brought him on. I'd like to think that this tour will help the young lads."

"This will help them integrate with the senior lads and gives them an insight into the demands that will be put on them. People should not lose sight of the fact that they are only young lads and it's unfair to expect too much of them."

"Without being disrespectful, there's a big gap between the reserves and the first team. There's an even bigger gap between pre-season games and playing on a competitive basis in the first division."
