Who will win League 2?

Kabba Decision On Hold!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 05/11/2002

ALTHOUGH Steve Kabba sent a big 'thank you' to the Grimsby Town fans who backed the Grimsby Telegraph's campaign to keep him at Grimsby, he has still to make a decision with only two games left to play.

With hundreds of supporters waving "Stay Steve" posters when he emerged from the tunnel on Saturday, Kabba told the Grimsby Telegraph; "I'm touched. I have never seen anything like what happened on Saturday. It is nice to be wanted and I appreciate what they are doing. I didn't realise how strongly everyone felt about it."

"It meant a lot to me to have that response. The fans should know they mean a lot to me too. Grimsby have given me a chance to play first-team football and that's what I want."

"It will be a purely footballing decision. The fans have showed they care, but I have to make my mind up on the football side of things only and do what is best for me at the moment."

Although a number of first division clubs are monitoring the striker's progress, his decision will not be based on money because he is contracted to Palace until the end of the season with his wages fixed which means no other club can get him by offering more cash.

Paul Groves will have further talks with the striker this week and said. "The fans have taken to him since we brought him here and they're starting to see just how good he is. He's got a lot in his locker and they can only help by getting behind us and encouraging him to stay."

"They were first-class on Saturday, and I'm sure it will have helped our cause."
