The Guessing Game - Who's Going To Play?

By: Richard Lord
Date: 18/12/2002

PAUL Groves has received some positive news today after Simon Ford, Darren Barnard and Stuart Campbell returned to full training. The trio will be in contention for a starting place in this weekend's big relegation clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Steve Livingstone and John McDermott remain doubts but loan defender Jason Gavin may have to sit out this Saturday unless he recovers from a sprained ankle quicker than anticipated.

As things stand, Ford and Groves appear to be the likely choice in central defence, with Ward or Parker ready to fill the breech if McDermott isn't fit in time.

The return of Campbell and Barnard gives Groves food for thought in midfield where he also has a fit Santos and Pouton. Coldicott remains a doubt but could also be in contention to make the squad.

Cooke and Oster are also options the Town boss needs to consider. Mansaram and Rowan look to be the promised partnership for the weekend unless Livingstone recovers sufficiently.

Over 8,000 fans are expected to attend the big game this Saturday despite it being the last Saturday before Christmas where traditionally football attendances suffer at the hands of late Christmas shopping.

The Owls have sold nearly all of their 2,400 allocation in the Osmond stand and 1,500 tickets have been snapped up by Mariners fans, promising one of the highest gates of the season at Blundell Park.
