Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Mixed Emotions For Davison

By: Richard Lord
Date: 27/01/2003

BRADFORD City shot-stopper Aidan Davison believes the weekend victory over his old side Grimsby has taken the pressure of the Bantams but also revealed he felt 'gutted' for Mariners boss Paul Groves.

Speaking after Town's 2-1 defeat to Bradford, the 34-year old said: "It's split emotions for me because I'm friendly with Paul Groves. I'm gutted for him and the team because I want them to stay up but I also know it was a massive game for us.

"On the one hand I'm delighted because it takes a little bit of pressure off us but I know it's difficult for Grimsby and I know how much it would have affected Paul (Groves), especially the way we won the game."

Michael Boulding put the Mariners ahead after 16 minutes but Davison thought he had saved it: "I got a touch on it and I turned round and thought 'that's gone wide' and it went about a foot inside the post so I was angry with myself."

Just before the break Steve Livingstone was dismissed for violent conduct following a clash with Robert Molenaar. Speaking of the incident Davison continued: "I actually haven't seen that. I'll have to have a look at that on TV.

"I wouldn't like to say - I'm not sitting on the fence - I honestly don't know. I know Livvo well and I don't think he'd deliberately elbow anybody."

And the former Town number one was pleased with the reception he got from the home fans: "Second half I ran out and it was nice to get a good reception. It was always going to be split but I was happy with it."

Strikes from Andy Gray and Claus Jorgensen handed the visitors a valuable 2-1 win to push themselves above Cup-distracted Walsall and Davison believes his team were worthy of the win.

"I've had nothing to do all day. From a team point of view I think we played really well. Obviously it's easier against ten men but even before that I thought we controlled it but the only one chance they had, they scored from.
